Hello, my name is Megan, and I have organised this campaign on behalf of my friend Haneen, who is in Gaza. Here is her story, in her words: My name is Haneen. I am 24 years old, and live in the North of Gaza. Before the war, I was studying literature and translation, but I haven’t been able to graduate yet. Like so many others, my family has spent everything we have just trying to survive. I have a family of 9 members. My eldest brother, Fadi, was martyred. At the age of eighteen, Fadi- the eldest son- took on the responsibility of helping to support the family. Then, with the outbreak of the war, our father lost his job, and that’s when our real suffering began. Fadi was the one responsible for our family, working day and night to earn a living. He was a father figure to his younger brothers, Mousa and Alaa, and worked tirelessly to provide daily sustenance for his family. After the war ended and we returned from the south to the north, Fadi didn’t come back with us because of his work. Days passed, and halfway through the month of Ramadan, Fadi finally returned to his family- but the night he came home marked the beginning of the end of the ceasefire, and the return of the war. On the third day of Eid al-Fitr — a holiday celebrated by Muslims all over the world — we were forced to flee again, leaving our home and seeking shelter with relatives. As time went on, news spread about the American humanitarian organization, Gaza Humanitarian Foundation. The organization began recruiting Palestinian workers, and when Fadi’s name was chosen, we were overjoyed, filled with hope that we could finally eat and drink like the other young men who went out to work there. Then, on June 12, the devastating news of Fadi’s martyrdom reached us. Fadi wasn’t just the eldest son — he was a kind, steady, and reliable figure to his mother, his father, and his brothers. He gave his life for all of them, sacrificing everything for love and responsibility. Fadi was twenty years old when he was martyred. Fadi was not just a number; he had dreams, ambitions, and a life of his own. Now, I carry his memory with me, and try to hold on to my own dreams.
With your help, I hope to continue my education, support my younger siblings, and help provide my family with the basic needs we’ve gone without — food, clean water, clothing, and a safe place to sleep.
Every donation makes a difference. No amount is too small.
My family and I are not just numbers. We are people with lives, hopes, and futures. Please, help us.
